STEPHEN'S PLAYLIST

ANNE MARIE'S PLAYLIST

STEPHEN TO ANNE MARIE:

SB: What is your favorite song?

AM: Chelsea, Slim Gabriel. Almost makes me want to change my name to Chelsea. Nobody ever writes songs like this about “Anne Maries.“

SB: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

AM: Ava Maybee, perhaps? It’s crazy to me that we’ve been doing this for this long and we have such little crossover with new jams.

SB: If your house was on fire and you could only save 3 vinyl records, which ones would they be?

AM: This is a weird reply that might not be what you want to hear, but I don’t think I’d grab any records if my house was on fire. I love records and I enjoy collecting them. But in general I don’t own any that are wildly expensive. I always feel hyper aware that the stuff I own, though I enjoy it, could be gone in an instant. Running back inside for possessions would be a slippery slope for me anyway, because I’d grab more than 3, then I’d grab my leather jacket, then I’d grab some old photos, try to carry that chair out that I love…and I’d be dead with an armful of stuff that didn’t matter anyway.

If I’m running back for anything, it’s my computer. Not just because it has my life’s work on it but also because I’ve been really good about scanning in old photos and memorabilia in the last 5 years. I have a file titled “favorite” in my computer that has subfolders of people I love, places I’ve been, memories, etc. So, in some ways, “the things I would grab” are all now digital and on that computer now. It’s something I’m quite proud of, actually, and takes diligence to round up all the papers I’ve accumulated and scan them in every few months, but is well worth it. Like that text I sent you the other night, yeah, it’s in there, too.

ANNE MARIE TO STEPHEN:

AM: What is your favorite song?

SB: BUT HOW DO I PICK JUST ONE? Seriously, can I pick 16 this month? If you’re gonna twist my arm I’m giving it to one that snuck up on me in the middle of the hype…Paper Crane by Revel Day. Such a chill/cool beat and vibe. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of Ain’t No Love (In the Heart of the City), one of my all time faves. But also Lover Girl by Aaron Frazer :)

AM: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

SB: A couple. And a few that I thought “maybe I can save this until next month” and you’ve yet again proved me wrong. Ava Maybee. brb.

AM: December is coming. If you had to predict your “most played” tracks of the year, what would they be?

SB: Sadly (or maybe not sadly) I think about this question all the time when I decide to replay a song. If I had to guess in order it would be ‘I Like Dat’ by T-Pain first. Just no way around it. I love it and especially since the kids do too now (especially as they make a bottle popping gesture in that part of the song) and it’s an easy mood enhancer. Second will be Something Greater by Parcels. They continue to amaze and impress me. Third will be Weddings and Funerals by Jake Wesley Rogers. Not the usual type of song I go for (you know with good words and stuff) but I’m a sucker for songs where the artist just shoots a half court shot and doesn’t worry about their shooting percentage. In this one, he goes for it and just goes from slow and pulling you in immediately to punching you in the face. And it’s just him and a piano. Sign me up.
