ANNE MARIE'S PLAYLIST

STEPHEN'S PLAYLIST

ANNE MARIE TO STEPHEN:

AM: What is your favorite song?

SB:

AM: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

SB:

AM: What upcoming album drop are you most looking forward to?

SB: Well, the easy answer would be Parcels, whose sophomore album is set to drop in November. Know I’ll be cranking that through the hills of Zion in a few weeks. Also seeing some Magic City Hippies singles trickling out there so don’t even get me started about that. Honestly, most of the artists I like released new albums right before COVID and are finally now getting on tour for them, so it might be a while before they drop something new. Was supposed to get some new jams from Empire of the Sun this year, but that got delayed because they’ve been struggling to write/produce over Zoom. “Got to be in the room to just go where the music takes you kind of thing” is how they put it, which I can respect even if it means I’ve got to wait a little longer.

STEPHEN TO ANNE MARIE:

SB: What is your favorite song?

AM: Why do lyrics always sound better in French? Les Échardes, Charlotte Cardin.

SB: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

AM: Nope!

SB: What’s one of your favorite instrumental songs and one of your favorite a cappella songs?

AM: I don’t think I listen to enough a cappella to answer that portion of the question. But I will make it my mission to diversify more and report back in the future!

My favorite instrumental song is also my favorite jazz song. It Never Entered My Mind. I’m listening to it right now as I write this. I go back and forth between thinking Miles Davis’ version is my favorite and thinking Stan Getz’ version is my favorite. Something about the sound of it levitates me. It makes me think about the wonderful things that come into your life that you never saw coming. The people you fall in love with that you didn’t even register when you first met them. The cafe you stumbled across in the part of town you had no interest in going to. The upsetting news you got that you thought was going to upheave your life, that a year later you realize has brought about some incredibly fruitful upsides. In my mind, recognizing these things and being open to these things is some of the best stuff of life. The reasons we’re all here. The things you can never fully explain to kids, they just have to go out and experience it themselves to understand.
