STEPHEN'S PLAYLIST

ANNE MARIE'S PLAYLIST

STEPHEN TO ANNE MARIE:

SB: What is your favorite song?

AM: Cool to You by Teenage Priest.

SB: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

AM: Only Luke James.

SB: In baseball we had walkout songs. A walkout song is a short clip of a particular song to let the word/crowd know you’ve arrived. What would your walkout song (and part of the song) be at ages 10, 20 and 30?

AM: This is a real tough question, mainly because in basketball we really didn’t have individual walkout songs. We had a cd mixtape we’d run out and warm up to but that was a team thing. I got tapped to put that together a few times in high school and college and then got fired because I always put the explicit songs on. But I’ll play (and try to be realistic)…

At 10, I would have wanted my song to be Return of the Mack by Mark Morrison, but realistically I wasn’t cool enough to have picked Mack. Which means I would have picked You Got It by *NSYNC — I was really in to the B side tracks I felt like people didn’t give enough credit to — [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gZPdQXlSZw]. Right around 15 seconds it gets pumping. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about.

At 20, I would have been really into Velvet Underground and Fleet Foxes and discovering totally non hype music in film school and also finally feeling free to let my explicit flag fly on the basketball court and around hoops friends. Which means I would have picked T-Pain (who I was obsessed with), but again, a deep cut, just to prove I was a real fan: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqrq8giDhJY]. Is that appropriate for a walkout song? Absolutely not.

My present day walkout song would be the beginning of Franny by our beloved Magic City Hippies — right around 36 seconds in when the chorus gets going. It just sounds like chaos and romance all rolled up into one electronic sound and it makes me feel good.

ANNE MARIE TO STEPHEN:

AM: What is your favorite song?

SB: Gotta give it to Little Simz edging out Ma quale idea by a hair.

AM: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

SB: Only Neal Francis is a repeat. Everything else is new!

AM: What’s one song currently playing on the radio that you can’t stop listening to right now?

SB: This is a really tough question to answer, mainly because I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio, especially a station that repeated a song. If I had to pick I'd say the song "Still Ridin" by Yelawolf just because it's got a great driving beat and reminds me of some early 90s rap. Now if we're calling my own playlists "the radio" then it would absolutely be california by Jean Tonique. Was so excited to add this to the list for December but then realized they were already burned last year. At this rate, we should have a 2019 repeat playlist with some of the best already burned artist songs that we couldn't share.
