ANNE MARIE'S PLAYLIST

STEPHEN'S PLAYLIST

ANNE MARIE TO STEPHEN:

AM: What is your favorite song?

SB: I feel like I need a 7-way tie this month. Classic case of working my way though the playlist going “definitely this one” then a song later “no this one.” If I had to pick just one, I’d give it to Anna Shoemaker, but just over Eyedress and Naeleck who were bringing that strong synth vibe that I can’t get enough of these days. Also, Pop Kulture, cause that beat fire.

AM: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

SB: Nope. Nadda One.

AM: What city that has a vast musical history do you wish you could snap your fingers and spend a month in to soak it all up? And which would I? Mine should be easy.

SB: My answer would maybe depend on if I could time travel as well, like can I go back to hear Stan Getz in a small California nightclub? I’m guessing you’re going to say no, so it’s more modern times. In reverse order, my guess for you would be Paris, but if you’re staying domestic, I’d say NYC. For me, the city would influence it just as much as the music so spending a month in a beautiful city would make the music sound better. Right now, I’d probably say Cuba. Feel like that’s got so much history that I’ve only scratched the surface on. Yeah. Gimme a month there with some cigars, good drinks and a record player and a month might turn into a lifetime.

STEPHEN TO ANNE MARIE:

SB: What is your favorite song?

AM: Jon Gk, Addicting Game.

SB: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

AM: Jeremy Pope, that’s it!

SB: What’s the best, most unconventional wedding music you remember?

AM: Interesting question, especially considering I just came off a wedding where “DJ Rocco” was spinning some rather cliché wedding tracks and/or nobody attending liked to dance...which led to a sad dance floor! I think the best was cousin David’s wedding outside of Detroit when I was in college. I remember talking to his friend (the DJ) who had flown in from SF or someplace similar to do the music. He had a whole little set up and clearly he had put a lot of curation and intention into the night as a wedding gift. Everything had a ‘floaty little night’ vibe. The jams definitely skewed more “indie pop” and there weren’t too many bangers but it fit the bride and groom perfectly, and honestly probably the guests, too. Monica’s wedding in Monterrey was a close second, but mainly because the band was playing a mix of top 40 hits and Pit Bull and I was on the dance floor with 40 of her closest friends and it was one of those weddings where everyone is on the dance floor until 3AM. But like… the best of the best of music I truly love to dance to? Well that’s a white whale, sir, and I’m still searching. : )
