STEPHEN'S PLAYLIST

ANNE MARIE'S PLAYLIST

STEPHEN TO ANNE MARIE:

SB: What is your favorite song?

AM:  Dilemme by Lous and The Yakuza. What a band name! I have so many questions for them…

SB: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

AM: Hayley Williams.

SB: You're having a house party. You've got the jams going all night (obvs), but it's time for last call. Most last call songs are meant to be annoying so people will get the idea and leave, but you (being the great host that you are) find something that gets the message across, but might also inspire your guests to head to the nearest club. What song do you play?

AM: These last two months’ wild card questions really got me. Part of me believes that (when you really want people to get the eff out) you can’t keep the hype dance party vibe going. You’ve gotta switch to jazz or R&B, something that’s a clear break from the tracks played earlier, or people will linger as lonnnnnng as possible. Or you just go old school Purgatory style (yes, I just found a way to shout out to the 18+ Dallas club from our youth) and shut the music off completely and turn on the house lights. Harsh? Yeah.

I do love the idea of a “send-off” track that I would play last every night. That’s a cool tradition. With that in mind, my last bangin’ track of the night would be Slumming It by Chromeo. At least, until I fall in love with another dance track in a few months or years.

ANNE MARIE TO STEPHEN:

AM: What is your favorite song?

SB: PUBLIC with Honey In The Summer. I mean, that's the groove we all need in our lives right now.

AM: Have you heard any of these tracks before?

SB: HAIM, yeah, that one's going to sting for a while. Otherwise, new stuff.

AM: One of the greatest things that happened to me during this month’s search for the greatest jams from artists we haven’t featured before was discovering that HAIM had never been featured on our site. I couldn’t believe it. This news enabled me to burn them with “Los Angeles” (swoon!), an unexpectedly hype sax track off their new album. I feel like more and more we’re discovering the opposite — later tracks we love from artists we’ve already featured. So, this month’s question comes with a mini treasure hunt: Find an artist whose music you love, that you could have sworn had been featured already on the site…but you just realized has not been featured? Bonus points if you decide to feature them on your August playlist!

SB: So, this answer I'm going to cheat with because it doesn't happen often, but I actually did that back in April when I shared Joywave. I've had them in my prep lists for years and I guess I always thought they were shared, but then when I did the April check and realized they hadn't ever made it out, it was a no-brainer.
